About Imani Secondary Care

Imani is a unique secondary care facility dealing specifically with eating disorders and all the adjacent complaints. The centre is situated in a completely refurbished, modern and airy converted residence in the central suburb of Observatory.

Pam Goodman of Tharagay House, the renowned secondary care for alcoholism and drug addiction, recognised the need for a facility focused entirely on food-related addictions. Pam and her team of qualified and experienced counsellors, dieticians and health practitioners have developed a holistic approach to the treatment and care of eating disorder patients. The approach is based on a combination of a 12 Step programme and the already successful methodologies being practiced with eating disorders.

The treatment team at Imani includes:

Pam Goodman

Pam is a qualified nursing sister and NAADAC/UK (National Addiction Accreditation Drugs and Alcohol – United Kingdom) accredited addiction counselor. She has been working with eating disorders at Tharagay House since 1997. Tharagay house is a successful rehab centre for treatment of drug, alcohol and all subsidiary addictions.

Alison Bloomberg-Green

Alison has trained and worked in the eating disorder program at Tharagay house and now at Imani for over 5 years with great success. She has been in recovery from an Eating disorder for many years and thus has first hand experience and insight into the successful treatment of eating disorders.

Marelize De Bruin

Marelize has completed the addictions counseling internship at Kenilworth Clinic and is currently in the process of completing her BA Psych Degree. Marelize manages the program and is one of our resident counselors.

Felice Rauch

Felice has trained and worked in outpatient and inpatient programmes including Tharagay House. She is both an expert in the field of addiction and has specialist eating disorder skills.

We have numerous part time psychologists and trained counselors, many of them who have walked this path and have valuable insight into the treatment of this disease.

In addition our night nursing staff covers a 24hr day, so our clients feel contained, monitored and supported. To this end we also employ a full time security guard.

We are also privileged to work with two leading eating disorder dieticians in Cape Town, Julia lovely, and Melanie Harris. They have been our dieticians and consultants for many years and run a practice in Green Point. They have a noticeable success rate and are involved in the daily running and activities at Imani.
